Many account incidents are caused less by weak passwords and more by incomplete number-change cleanup. Old numbers can be deactivated or recycled, SIM cards can be replaced, and old devices may still stay signed in. Together, these can break your verification flow and increase takeover risk.
If you are already facing code delivery issues, start with the verification code troubleshooting guide. This advisory focuses on what to review before and after a number change.
Cases that need an immediate review
- You changed your phone number, moved carriers, or stopped using your old number.
- You replaced a lost SIM card or temporarily switched to another SIM/device.
- You handed an old phone to family, coworkers, resale channels, or repair services.
- Login alerts appear at unusual times or show unknown devices.
- Verification codes still go only to an old number you no longer control.
A safer order of actions
First confirm which verification channel is currently valid. Then review your signed-in device list and remove devices you no longer use. After that, clean up old number bindings, recovery codes, and screenshots stored on local devices. Keep number/channel issues separate from network issues when troubleshooting.
If you find unknown sessions, continue with signed-in device management. For downloads or reinstalls, always verify the current source on the SafeW download page.
Safety note: After changing numbers, recovery paths matter as much as login credentials. Review recovery codes, verification channels, and old device sessions together.
